We’ve got sad news today: CarbonCancel has come to an end.
After three great years, we’re saying goodbye to our passion project. Below you’ll find the reasons for our decision, the consequences for your membership (if you have any), and a word of gratitude for your support.
Why is CarbonCancel coming to an end?
The main reason is this: big ambitions, little time. We have many big ideas of what CarbonCancel should be, and how it should develop. Moreover, we have high standards of our own service. At the same time, our lives have changed. CarbonCancel started as a student project. Now, all of us have started working. This means our efforts are increasingly divided. Over the past months, it has become clear to us that we can no longer reconcile our ambitions and standards for CarbonCancel with the time it takes to develop and maintain it. Rather than reducing the quality of our service, we have decided to quit while we’re ahead.
What does this mean for my CarbonCancel membership?
On the 31st of May 2022, your monthly subscription will end automatically. Until then, we will still cancel over 150% of your carbon footprint. Afterwards, you will not be charged anymore, and your monthly carbon offsets will end.
We can imagine you’re still as much of a climate champion as when you joined CarbonCancel. So are we!
If you want to continue cancelling your footprint, we recommend Trees for All, ClimateHero and Klima as alternative services. We know this market well, and these organisations stand out for their quality and user-friendliness.
What have we achieved together?
Together, we have made the world a little greener. With your help, we:
Cancelled over 1.5 million kgs of CO2 emissions
Realised 5 development projects (ranging from forestry to hydropower, and from Chile to Sumatra)
Helped over 1500 people calculate their footprint
Thank you for being part of this community. We truly hope that CarbonCancel has helped you take steps on your climate journey.
What have we learned?
We learned a lot in three years. What’s most astounded us is how many people want to fight to keep our planet safe. Our work focused on the steps each of us can take to lead a greener life. Important work. But there are limits to individual action. Real results require collaboration. Even though we can’t calculate the exact emissions, supporting the climate movement is one of the most important steps anyone can take on their climate journey.
So, if we may share one lesson we’ve learned, it’s this: Act! Don’t let shame produce inaction. Let’s clean up our own act and find each other. Eat less meat and donate, protest, vote.
Only together can we save our planet.
Our thanks go out to our coaches and mentors. People who have helped us get our act together and keep our focus sharp. We are especially grateful to everyone who joined our team along the way: Niki, Wilbert, Carlotta, Anna, Pieter, Oscar. Each of you left your mark on CarbonCancel and changed our community for the better.
Above all, we thank you!
Creating CarbonCancel has been one of the most enriching experiences of our lives, and your support has meant the .
